Proof of Delivery Definition
A proof of delivery is similar to a receipt but with evidence of a successful shipping and delivery process. It contains a written acknowledgment from the client that they have received their order of a specific value on a particular day and time.
Why Does POD matter?
POD is a vital component in any delivery process. When your freight moves from the warehouse or transportation hub, POD passes the accountability from the shipper to the carrier and finally to the ultimate customer. If the customer notices that the package is torn, any signs of breakage, damage, or leakage from the package, they can indicate on the POD, which will initiate an immediate follow-up.
It is crucial that clients inspect their cargo thoroughly and ensure the freight is in excellent condition before signing the POD. This will help avoid the hassle when it comes to the claiming procedure. As a matter of fact, the end client can refuse to accept the delivery and raise a complaint within 24 to 48 hours if they have a problem with its condition. Carriers should also follow a similar procedure, thoroughly analyze the freight and note its condition on the POD before shipping.

Common Types of Proof Of Delivery
Hardcopy: It is the most common type, which mainly involves a paper (document) that the receiver signs upon receiving their freight.
E-POD: In this digital era, the electric proof of delivery is quickly gaining traction. The delivery person carries an electric device that allows the end recipient to sign electronically. Most shipping companies prefer the E-POD over the hardcopy option as it has been proven to be more accurate, efficient, and reliable. It automatically updates the freight delivery status in real-time, capturing the actual time of your freight delivery.
