SPECIALIZING IN HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORT & MACHINERY SHIPPING

What is a Freight Carrier?

A freight carrier is a trained, certified, and authorized business person or enterprise specializing in freight movement from one place to another.

Different tariffs have different carrier accessibility, regulation, tariffs, service charges, etc. As such, some carriers might be better than others, depending on your shipment.

Common Types of Freight Carriers

  • Local Freight Carriers - Also known as small carriers, local carriers make up the majority (approximately 60 percent) of all the motor carriers. They serve the local area within a limited area of between 80-100-mile radius as directed by the Surface Transportation Board. They are especially great options for last mile or short-distance shipping.

  • Regional Freight Carriers - These mid-sized carriers cover a wider area, have larger fleets, and are well-staffed with many drivers. All the same, they still operate within a given area. They provide a more comprehensive range of services and faster transportation times and help to fill the gaps in the supply chain.

  • National freight carriers - They are the largest carriers in the market. They operate on huge businesses and move large shipments country-wide and internationally. National carriers work together with shipping carriers to complete regional and local shipping operations. Besides, they provide more quality and reliable services at flexible prices thanks to their large capacity and new technology.
