What is Container Freight?

Container freight is the most fundamental aspect of shipping. Container freight is ideally where packages are stored while in transit. There are primarily two types of container freight:

Full container load (FCL) – this is a type of container where one person owns all the container goods. The person incurs high costs for shipping the freight, and this is mostly preferred by a large shipper who has a lot of cargo.

Less than Container Load (LCL) – this is a type of container freight where the container goods belong to different people. The goods are combined and shipped together to one destination to save shipping costs. This is preferred by small shippers who often have small freight that will not fill a container.

Container Freight Station

A container freight station is a facility where the shipments are consolidated and unconsolidated. In other words, a container freight station is where the freight is stored and assessed when it is not in transit. The location of such a station is usually a warehouse. The goods to be shipped are collected, stored, and stored before they are shipped to their site.

Common Station Locations

Freight stations are just as effective as their locations. The best freight stations are located in ports, airports, and other transportation centers to have quick access to transport and goods received.

For effective shipping and third-party logistics, every aspect of shipping should be flawless. Containers help in securing the goods that are being shipped. FLC and LCL give consumers options on their approach to export their products. Container freight stations are part of the supply chain and should maximize their use.

Freight Station Benefits

Some of the benefits of container freight stations include:

  • Shipments are easily consolidated to a larger container that is cheaper to ship.
  • A wide range of freight could be stored and forwarded using the freight station.
  • The availability of the foreign trade zone and non-foreign trade zone reduces the tax that is implicated during shipping.
