A freightway is a truck lane, a highway segment, or a series of linked highways on which heavy trucks travel when shipping goods from one location to another. There are four common types of freight ways, including local, regional, dedicated, and Over the Road (OTR) routes.

Ideally, a local truck freightway traverses the general local area where they reside, expecting to get back home every night. Regional routes are freight ways in specific regions across the nation, such as Mid-Atlantic, North, and South West.
