Trailer Options for Diesel Engine Hauling
Many diesel engines ship on a flatbed if they are crated or bolted to a pallet and can be lifted by forklift or crane. Step decks help when the engine sits tall on a stand or height is tight. For very heavy industrial diesel engines, we may use a lowboy or heavy haul setup so we can spread weight across more axles.
How We Secure Diesel Engines for Transport
Securement depends on weight and packaging. Chains and binders are common for heavier engines, especially if the engine is bolted to a steel base or has rated lift lugs. Straps can work for lighter engines or fully crated loads, with edge protection to prevent cuts.
We also use blocking and bracing. Chocks, wood blocks, and friction mats help stop sliding. Drivers recheck tension early in the trip and during the run.
Diesel Engine Hauling Permits, Escorts, and Routing
Diesel engines are often overweight more than oversize, but either can happen. If gross weight, axle weight, width, height, or length exceed legal limits, permits may be required. Some routes also have bridge or city restrictions that affect planning.
Escort vehicles are usually triggered by permitted width, height, or length. Many overweight-only moves need permits but no escorts. We verify rules state by state before dispatch.
